Description

Baranti is a small picturesque hamlet by a beautiful lake surrounded by hillocks and forests at a place called Santuri in Purulia District. A water reservoir has been constructed by erecting a small earthen dam between Muradi Hill, at one side, and Baranti Hill, on the other. The stand-till water of the reservoir look like a large blue tinted glass mirror reflecting the vast expanse of sky over it. The view of the sunset with the lake on the four grounds is breath-taking. The surface of the static water turns into a shiny silvery plate on a full-moon light. The reservoir is surrounded by Panchkot Hill at one side and the Biharinath Hill, on the other. The area is shrouded with trees like Sal, Mahua, Piyal, Palash etc. The forest is abode of faunas like Rabbits, Porcupines, Wild Boars, Foxes, Wolves and Dears. The reservoir swarms with seasonal birds. If you are a lover of natural beauty, then you must have a trip to Baranti.

Time: 5.5 hours by car; 4.5 hours by train and then 1 hour by car.

Best Time to Visit

Winter is the best time to visit Baranti. If you want to see Baranti decorated with red palash flowers, you can visit here during Holi but the weather will be very hot during that time of the year.
