Description

The striking and attractive small town called Lachung is located in North Sikkim. Lachung is an epitome of scenic beauty embellished with tall dark mountains, gushing waterfalls, vibrant fruit and apple orchards and meandering glacial rivers, which take everyone in complete awe of their rustic magic in just a matter of few seconds. Lachung is a sister of Lachen and it means 'small pass'.

Duration

Distance: 740km from Kolkata.
Time: Take a train to NJP from Kollata or a flight to either Bagdogra or Pakyong. Around 8.5r from NJP/Bagdogra/ SIliguri, and 6hr from Pakyong.

Best Time to Visit

Summers are mild and pleasant and winters are very cold with snowfall. Lachung is mostly flocked by tourists from all across the globe between October and May.

Visit Gurudongmar Lake, Yumthang valley, Zero Valley, Chopta valley and Chungthung valley which is considered to be a holy place which has been blessed by Guru Padmasambhava, the patron saint of Sikkim.
You may also visit the Seven Sisters Waterfalls, LachungMonastery, Thangu, Mangan, Shingba Rhododendron Sanctuary, and Green Lake.
You can also buy exquisite handicrafts from Lachung and take them home.
You can trek to the Sanctuary from the base camp of Lachung and go to Phuni for skiing activities.
Explore the destination of Lachung to have an insight into the culture and traditions of people living there. The place sis majorly inhabited by Bhutias and Lepchas. Lachung also sees few festivals around the year.
A significant Buddhist festival called the 'Saga Dawa Festival' happens here during May end or June depending upon the Tibetan calendar.
