Description

Sumbuk is a paradise of astounding collection of flora and fauna set amidst the magnificent Himalayan Mountains and the meandering beauty of Rangit River. Sumbuk is located in South District of Sikkim close to Namchi and is divided in two parts - the Lower Sumbuk and the Upper Sumbuk. The lower part has temperate forest with many birds and the upper part has towering forests of pine, birch and firs. The only bird Sanctuary of Sikkim, the Kitam Bird Sanctuary is located at adjacent to the Lower Sumbuk.

Distance: 620km from Kolkata.
Time: It takes around 3 hours to travel to Sumbuk from NJP, Siliguri, Bagdogra Airport and Pakyong Airport.

Best Time to Visit

From March to May the weather is fresh and pleasant and you can enjoy the sight of blooming Rhododendrons in Upper Sumbuk. The winters are mild and the weather becomes great for bird watching. Migratory birds too visit Sumbuk during the winters.

The Sumbuk Shivalaya Mandir, dedicated to Lord Shiva is an age old temple.
Visit the Kolomple Rocky Mountain for a catch a wonderful view of the nature around.
The famous Chardham in Solophok and Samdruptse Monastery are also nearby.
