Description

Chopta Valley lies on the way to Gurudongmar Lake and stays covered in snow during the winter months. Chopta valley also called the valley of flowers is a picturesque destination in North Sikkim. This valley is unexplored and untouched, as a very few tourists travel to this destination despite its popularity. The place offers a majestic view of the mountains around. In summer, the slopes of the valley remains covered in pine forests, lush green shrubs, and a river flows meandering its way through the valley.

Duration

Distance: 780km from Kolkata.
Time: Take a train to NJP from Kollata or a flight to either Bagdogra or Pakyong. It takes around 10hr from NJP/SIliguri/Bagdogra and around 8hr from Pakyong Airport to reach Chopta Valley by car. The journey can be long and tiresome and requires halt. Tourists usually travel to Chopta Valley from Lachen. (2hr)

Best Time to Visit

Summer sees a riot of colors in Chopta of various shades of flowers, plants and trees. You can also enjoy various water sports by the river during summer months.
The summers are mild but the winter becomes very chilly as Chopta Valley experiences layers of snow. You can also walk on the lakes and streams, as it turns frozen due to severe cold.
