How To Reach

Baratang Island is located around 100km away from the capital of Andamanadn Nicobar island, Port Blair. The journey to Baratang from Port Blair is in two phase. The first phase includes a car journey from Port Blair to Jirkatang. The second phase includes a journey through Jarwa Reserve Forest, where you cannot halt your car or take a walk outside. This journey will take you to Middle Strait Jetty. The jetty will then take you to the other side of the strait, where Baratang Island is located in about 15 minutes.
The vehicles have to leave in convoys. There are 8 convoy throughout the day from Jirkatang. So please take care of the timings. You cannot cross the forest unless you are in one of the convoys.Baratang Island is best visited in the morning hours.
Baratang is famous among tourists for Lime Stone caves and Mangrove Forests. You can further hire small speedboats or fishermen boats (dongis) to reach Lime Stone Caves. The journey to the caves will enthrall you as it takes you underneath the dense forest of mangrove plantations.

Best Time to Visit

Winter is the best season of the year to pay a visit to Baratang Island. Summer brings a lot of heat and monsoon sees heavy precipitation here.

Hotel Range

Rs.4000/- to Rs.6000/- average room range per room per night excluding Tax and GST. Most of the hotels are located away from the immediate beach of Baratang Island. The natives and the locals mostly occupy this Island.

Tips

Visit the mangrove creeks by boat, limestone caves, mud volcano, Parrot Island and Baludera Beach.
Interacting with the Jarwa Tribe is strictly prohibited. Do not offer them any food or clothes. It is best to avoid the presence of Jarwa tribe as much as possible.
