Description

Dzongriis known as a trekker's delight, which has unspoiled mountain ranges with an amazing collection of flora and fauna. The trek to Dzongri passes through forests of silver fir, hemlock, magnolia and rhododendron with views of the Kanchenjunga peaks in the backdrop. The entire trekking trail is in Kanchenjunga National Park, which is a part of the Kanchenjunga Biosphere Reserve.

Duration

Distance: 680km from Kolkata.
Time: 5.5 hr by car from NJP/Bagdogra/Siliguri and 4.5 hr from Pakyong.

Best Time to Visit

The best season is the summer, which is the period between ends of April until June end. Then another great time is the autumn - mid September to October end. Winter sees snowfall and sever cold which may be unfavorable for trekking.

Tips

Dzongri is at an altitude of 4300 meters in West Sikkim. You will reach Dzongri by trekking in 2 days after starting your trek from village of Yuksom through Rathong River George. You can further continue trekking to Kanchenjunga base camp or Goecha La Pass. You can give a halt at Tshoka village before reaching Dzongri by trek.
