Description

Tinchuley is a secluded hamlet at 5800 ft above sea-level. It lies at the end of an enthralling climb through pine forests and winding hill roads between Darjeeling and Kalimpong. The name derives from the appearance of three mountain tops on the flank of a village resembling the 'Tin' (three) 'Chulhey' (stoves). It is a clean, green, beautiful and untouched tourist destination. This small villlage of a few families look sleepy and quiet amidst the pine forests, marigolds and endless orchards.

Duration

Distance: 640km from Kolkata.
Time: 10 hours by train and 50 min from Kolkata to NJP and Bagdogra respectively. From both NJP and Bagdogra it takes about 3 hours to reach Tinchuley by car.

Winter is the perfect time to enjoy the blissful Tinchuley.

Tips

View the magnificent sunrise at the mighty Kanchenjunga at the Sunrise Point, just a 5 minutes walk.
The adventurous may visit a place called Chitray on the river Teesta (11 km) for a wonderful experience of rafting.
Walk through the organic village and meet the locals.
Visit the lovely Orange Orchards of Nirmal's. There is a factory that produces fresh orange juice, marmalades and pickles which you can buy at reasonable prices.
