Description

Chilapata forest is part of Jaldapara National Park and they are divided by River Torsha. Jaldapara is to the west of Torsha while Chilapata is to the east, and in between the river flows. In recent times Chilapata has come to prominence as a lot of tourists who visit and stay at Jaldapara, have also started taking car Jeep safaris at Chilapata. Actually most of the wildlife that you can see in the main forest of Jaldapara can also be seen at Chilapata and that includes one-horned rhinos, elephants, leopards, bisons, many different kinds of deers like chital, sambar, hog deer, barking deer etc, and of course plethora of birds.Chilapata forest is part of Jaldapara National Park and they are divided by River Torsha. Duration

Distance: 682km from Kolkata.
Time: 10 hours by train and 50 min by flight from Kolkata to NJP and Bagdogra respectively. From there, it takes almost 2.5 hours by car to reach Chilapata.

Best Time to Visit

Winter season between December and February is the best time to visit Chilapata due to the pleasant weather conditions with low humidity. During Monsoon, the sanctuary remains closed.

Visit the major attraction of Nalraja Garh or the fort of Nal Kings.
Go for the enticing jungle safari and bird-watching at the watch towers near Torsa River.
