Description

Punakha is one of the most scenic destinations of Bhutan. The land of Punakha valley is also famous for rice cultivation. Punakha was also the old capital of the Dragon Land before Thimphu became the one. This place holds the second oldest dzong in the whole of Bhutan, which is one of the most magnificent structures in the country. You can get a clear as well as an amazing view of the Himalayas from this location. Two major rivers of Bhutan namely Pho Chu and Mo Chhu converge here in the valley of Punakha.

How To Reach

Reach Paro directly by flight and then travel to Punakha by car. The approx. distance between Paro and Punakha is 160km, which takes around 4h to reach by car.
From Phuntsholing, Punakha is situated at a distance of 230km, which takes 6 to 7h to reach by car.

Best Time to Visit

Spring is a great time to visit Punakha to witness the greenery and blossoms of flowers. Early wintertime during the months of October, November and early December is also a good time to visit Punakha. The weather turns cold and pleasant before the harsh winter climate sets in January and February.
