Description

Thimphu is the capital town of Bhutan and the center of government, religion and commerce. It is a unique city with unusual mixture of modern development alongside ancient traditions and culture. Thimphu is the most modern city in Bhutan with an abundance of restaurants, hotels, internet cafes, nightclubs and shopping centers.

How To Reach

Bhutan's only international airport is at Paro from where it takes around 1.5 h to reach Thimphu by car. The distance between Paro and Thimphu is around 65km. From Phuntsholing, it takes around 4h to cover a distance of about 155km to reach Thimphu by car.

Best Time to Visit

Months of March, April, October and November are the best time to visit Thimphu.

There are many other premium hotels of higher range too.
The currency in Bhutan is called the Bhutanese Ngultrum.

Tips

Tshechu is an important festival where masked dances, popularly known as Chams, perform in the courtyards of the TashichhoDzong in Thimphu. It is a four-day festival held every year during autumn during the months of September and October, on dates based on the Bhutanese calendar.
Visit Jungshi Handmade Paper Factory, Tango Buddhist Institute, Clock Tower Square, Changangkha Lhakhang, SimtokhaDzong, Trashichhoedzong, National Library, Motithang Preserve etc.
Go for shopping and try the local delicacies of fish and cheese.
Weaving is one of the oldest Bhutanese crafts, and the Academy, housed in a beautiful contemporary building, attempts to preserve this heritage. You can attend the textile exhibitions too.
