Description

A seaside hamlet, Bakkhali is situated on one of the innumerable deltaic islands spread across the southern Bengal. Most of the islands are a part of the mystical Sunderbans and Bakkhali is also one of them. The place derived its name from 'bak' or red-beaked seagull. The wide long beach of Bakkhali of 7km stretches from Bakkhali to Frazergunj. The mangrove forest near the beaches is also a tourist attraction. Distance: 140km from Kolkata.
Time: 4.5 hours by car and 5 hours by train from Kolkata.

Best Time to Visit

A visit in the month of July will greet you with a cloudy and a windy weather by the beach. You may experience little rain too as the Monsoon approaches Bengal during that time.
You should also consider visiting Bakkhali between November and February to enjoy the beach even better.
