Description

Chitkul is considered the last inhabited village within the Indian boundaries on the old Indo-Tibetan Road. Chitkul village in the Kinnaur Valley is situated at the height of 3450m. It is a doorway, which opens the exquisite landscape of serene breathtaking beauty. There are orchids, mountains, meadows, huge rocks, river, jungle, and grasslands in the village of Chitkul. The journey to Chitkul will bestow a very new experience upon you. It is sparsely populated with around 600 locals. While travelling to the valley, you will see River Baspa and pass through the Rakchamvillage, which is the model village of the region. This little village is a must-visit place, and one should stay for at least a day here to admire the beautiful landscape around. It is a perfect place to enjoy your stay in the natural realm.

Chitkul is only 28km away from Sangla and takes about 1.5 h to reach here. From ReckongPeo, Chitkul is only 2.5 h away at a distance of 65km.

Best Time to Visit

Chitkul experiences heavy snowfall in the winter months and remains closed from October to February. Monsoon too experiences rainfall and may spoil the outdoor activities. Summer is the ideal time to be here to escape the scorching heat otherwise.
