Cherrapunji lies at a height of 4,500ft High above the misty and mystique valleys and white foaming rivers, ensconced in swirling heavy cloud cover. The stunning location and the year-round rain earned Cherrapunji the much-coveted entry long ago into the Guinness Book of World Records as the wettest place on earth. Cherrapunji is the place where the rainfall can be recorded in feet rather than in millimeters.
Today, climatic changes have moved Cherrapunji out of the topmost 'wet' slot, but it retains its pristine beauty, covered under the perpetual clouds, and the perpetual mists. Cherrapunji, much loved by the rain lovers lies in the heart of the State of Meghalaya-the abode of clouds.

How To Reach

Cherrapunji can be best connected from either Guwahati railhead or airport. The distance between Guwahati and Cherrapunji is approximately 150km and takes around 5h to complete by car.
You can also reach Cherrapunji easily from Shillong situated at a distance of 58km which takes 1.5 h to reach by car.

Best Time to Visit

Cherrapunji receives heavy rainfall throughout the year. Monsoon rainfalls are severe and tourists must avoid this period. However, the best time is the wintertime from October to March, as the weather turns cool and pleasant with a little more than moderate rainfall level.
Another surprising fact that you should be aware of is that Cherrapunji experience rainfall usually at night and so the day activities are not hindered.
