Description

Leh is a town in the Leh district of the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. It was the capital of the Himalayan kingdom of Ladakh, a land with superabundance of attractions to visit. Filled with surreal and fabulous landscapes, amazing people and culture, Leh is truly a heaven on Earth. The picturesque view of the place is enough to awe you to an extended level and leave you to re-think about its beauty even after returning to your home. Mountains dominate the landscape around the Leh as it is at an altitude of 3,500m. The principal access roads include the 434 km long highway, which connects Leh with Srinagar, and the 473 km long highway, which connects Manali with Leh. Both roads are open only on a seasonal basis. Leh is now known for its Buddhist sites and nearby trekking areas. Massive 17th-century Leh Palace, modeled on the Dalai Lama's former home, overlooks the old town's bazaar and mazelike lanes.

How To Reach

The easiest way to travel to Leh and Ladakh is by air. The nearest airport is KushokBakulaRimpochee Airport located in Leh. This airport is connected with many international airports in India like Delhi. It also receives flights from Srinagar, Jammu, Chandigarh and other common destinations in India.
You can also take a flight till Srinagar and from there reach Leh by road. The route covers Sonmarg, Zozi La, Drass, Kargil, Mulbek, Lamayaru and Saspol before reaching Leh. This route is open from May to October. It is the most scenic route with many attractions in its path. Some young-heart adventurous souls would also prefer a bike ride, all to free their minds and enjoy the beauty of the ride.

Best Time to Visit

Best time to visit Lehand Ladakhstarts from May and lasts till October though it is advisable to visit till September to enjoy the best because the place experiences heavy snowfall post September to February.
