Sunderbans

Description

The Sundarbans are the largest mangrove forests in the world. These mangroves are a mixture of trees and shrubs growing in saline coastal habitats which encompass an enormous 4000 sq km in India and another 6000 sq km in Bangladesh. From the Tibet trip, one can see the clenched forms of trees like hetal, garjan and sundari, seldom higher than a one-storey house but providing effective camouflage to the tigers. There are many species of birds like egrets, sandpipers, kingfishers and herons. Alligators are spotted during the winter when they come out to soak up the sun. Deer can be seen round the year. Sundarban was declared a World Heritage Site in 1987 and a Biosphere Reserve in 1989. Enjoy your stay with a complete village and wildlife feel.
