Port Blair

Description

Port Blair, the capital of Andaman and Nicobar Islands is a reminder of many sacrifices that the freedom fighters have taken for our independence. The Cellular Jail is perhaps the most famous remnant in Andaman that reflects India's struggle for freedom. A pipal tree outside this seven-winged Cellular Jail, tell tales of the torture of India's freedom fighters within its walls. In 1897, the British laid the foundation stone of the building. It had 698 solitary cells with no contact between prisoners.
A visit to the island will leave you feeling emotional. The island looks picturesque especially when the sun rises from Bay of Bengal. The mangroves, the greeneries, the vast expanse of Bay of Bengal all add to the beauty of Port Blair away from the main town of Port Blair.
