Description

Jaldapara is one of the most popular forests in Dooars. The Hollong Bungalow or the Eco Village Resort inside the forest is the only accommodation you will find in the core area of the forest. Jaldapara is situated at the foothills of Eastern Himalayas in Alipurduar district in West Bengal. River Torsha runs through the riverine forest sanctuary which is mostly covered with tall grasses. The Western side of River Torsha is called the Jaldapara and the Eastern side is known as Chilapata forests. The Jaldapara Sanctuary covers 216 sq. km area and is filled with innumerable varities of flora and fauna.

Duration

Distance: 670km from Kolkata.
Time: 10 hours by train and 50 min by flight from Kolkata to NJP and Bagdogra respectively. From there, it takes almost 2.5 hours by car to reach Jaldapara.

Best Time to Visit

Winter season between December and February is the best time to visit Jaldapara due to the pleasant weather conditions with low humidity. During Monsoon, the sanctuary remains closed.

Tips

Go for a night jeep safari into the Jaldapara Wildlife Sanctuary.
You can also go for an elephant ride or safari early in the morning.
With your binoculars, set out to see the majestic flights of many rare birds in grasslands, water-bodies and woodlands.
