Rajgir or Rajgriha - 'The House of Kings' in the District of Nalanda is a land of immense historical importance. Moreover, Rajgir stands as religious place both for Buddhism and Jainism as both Gautama Buddha and Mahavira are related to this region. Rajgir was known for its royal significance in the earlier times and it has been attracting history aficionados from all over the world. How To Reach

The nearest airport is at Patna at a distance of 100km. Rajgir has its own railhead. However, some people visit Gaya first and then Rajgir. (70km)
It takes 2.5 h from Patna to Rajgir, 1.5 h from Gaya.

Best Time to Visit

Winter is the best time to visit Rajgir from October to March. December and January are the coldest here.

Tourists usually visit Ajatshatru Fort, Viswa Shanti Stupa, MakhdumKund, Bimbisara Jail, Jain Temples, Cyclopean Walls, VenuVana, Hot Springs, Jivakameavan Gardens, JarasandhakaAkhara, RajgirKund, Sonbhandar Caves, Saptaparni Caves, Pippala Caves, Vulture's Peak and Karanda Tank, etc.
Do not miss a ropeway ride that takes you uphill to the Shanti Stupa and Monastries built by the Japanese Devotees on top of the Ratnagiri Hills.
A trip to Nalanda University is necessary from Rajgir. In Nalanda, visit Nalanda University, Hiuen Tsang Memorial Hall, Nalanda Archaeological Museum, NavNalandaMahavira, and Kundalpur.
You may also visit to a triking offbeat destination called Pawapuri from either Rajgir or from Nalanda. Jal Mandir, GonMandir, Samosaran and Gunajayaji are the most important tourist spots in Pawapuri.
