Description

Sasaram or Sahsaramis a perfect confluence of architectural marvel and natural beauty. The city was an important trading center under the rule of Sheh Shah and then Britishers and played an important role in the revolt of 1857.
The name 'Sasaram' originated from the names of the legendary King KartaviryaSahasrarjuna and sage Parashurama. Sasaram is famous for the SamratAshoka Pillar which is in a cave of Kaimur hill that can be approximately dated back to 269 BC - 250 BC.
Many monuments were built in Sasaram during the regime of Sher Shah, which still exist as remnants of the bygone era. The samples of Indo - Mughal - Afghan - British architecture that can be seen at Sasaram take tourists to its glorious past. Sasaram is also the birthplace of the Jhansi ki Rani of Bihar i.e., Haji Begum.

Nearest airport to Sasaram is located in Gaya, at a distance of 97.4 Km from here. Nearest Railway Station to Sasaram is the Sasaram Railway Station, which is located at a distance of 100 km from Varanasi.
It takes 3.5 h from Gaya by car to reach Sasaram.
