Description

Itanagar, the capital of Arunachal Pradesh is decorated with snowcapped Himalayas towering on the northern end and the fertile river plains of Brahmaputra on the southern end. It is a beautiful natural paradise. Itanagar also carries a rich mixture of archeological sites of great historical value, resources and institutions of great socio-cultural significance. The age-old tribal culture and heritage are still intact here. Dalai Lama has consecrated the famous Ita Fort and Ganga Lake and both are two of the major attractions here. The Yupia town shares the same attractions with Itanagar and so the two can be covered together. Itanagar is a perfect tourist delight of Arunachal Pradesh.

Itnagar is located at a distance of 80km away from Lilabari Airport and 140km from Jorhat Airport which takes 2.5 h and 5.5 h respectively by car.

There are many festivals, which are celebrated in Itanagar. Nyokum festival is celebrated to invite all the Gods and Goddesses of the universe to a particular venue at a particular time and is commonly worshipped by the people irrespective of caste, creed or class. The Dree Festival is an agricultural festival celebrated to avoid famine. Solung Harvest Festival is another festival celebrated in the month of September for five days or more. The Losar festival is celebrated to mark the New Year for a period of 5 days and prayers, religious flag hoisting, reading of Buddhist scripts and lighting butter lamps in the houses are some of the various ways of celebrating it.
