Description

An important stopover on the Leh and Manali highway, Sarchu lies on the boundary of Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir. Situated at an elevation of just over 14,500 ft between the Himalayan mountain passes of Baralacha La and Lachlung La, Sarchu is of great importance mainly due to its location on the Leh-Manali highway.

How To Reach

The nearest airport is KushokBakulaRimpochee Airport at Leh, which is connected to Delhi, Srinagar, Chandigarh and Jammu. You need to hire cabs from outside the airport to reach Sarchu.
The nearest railway station is Jammu Tawi, which is about 600 km from Sarchu. Trains from Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai and many other cities, connect Jammu Tawi. You can take a bus, a cab or a jeep to reach Sarchu.
Sarch is well connected to Leh, Manali and Spiti. There are regular bus services from Leh and Manali during May to September. You get the most number of buses to reach Sarchu from Manali.However, it would be more joyful to hire a cab and enjoy the drive.

February to May is the best time to visit Sarchu.

Tips

It will always be adventurous to stay in camps in Sarchu. In the best-case scenario, if you get a clear night sky, then just drag yourself outside the camp and enjoy the view of the mighty "Milky Way Galaxy".
If you are the adventurous soul, then you must go for trekking between May and September as Sarchu becomes the starting point for treks to Zanskar in Ladakh during that time.
