Nuwara Eliya means "city on the plain or "city of light." It is a town in the central highlands of Sri Lanka and is considered one of the major tea producing areas in the world. The tallest mountain in Sri Lanka "Pidurutalagala" oversees this magnificent city. It is the most visited hill region in the country. NuwaraEliya is said to have been found by a couple of British officers who apparently got lost while hunting elephants.
From Bandaranaike International Airport, it takes 5h to reach NuwaraEliya by covering a distance of 170km by road.
February to April has moderate climate and is generally the best time to visit. Braving a little rainfall is a good thing as Sri Lanka can be a great place to visit during mild monsoon.
