Description

Aritar is a pristine hamlet nestled in the Eastern border of Sikkim under the Rongli Sub-Division and it is a relatively new tourist destination. The place boasts of a picturesque scenic landscape and a beautiful "boot-shaped" lake called Lampokhri. There are also lush green forest, mountains, stepped farmlands and waterfalls. Aritar offers an excellent view of Mt Kanchenjunga. However, Aritar is also known to have one of the best heritage bungalows of Sikkim - The Aritar Dak Bungalow.

Distance: 665km from Kolkata.
Time: You can take a train to NJP and flight to Bagdogra or Pakyong from Kolkata.
From Siliguri/NJP/Bagdogra it takes 4.5 hrs by car and 3.5 hr from Pakyong Airport.

Best Time to Visit

Winter is the best time to be in Aritar and enjoy the pristine and calm nature of Aritar. Moreover, you can also see Kanchenjunga clearly during winter.

Visit Aritar top also called Mankhim. You can also visit other view points and walk along the forest trail to enjoy the beauty of nature.
Visit the famous Lampokhri Lake, shaped in ethe form of human foot flanked by emerald green forest cover. You can also enjoy paddle boating in the lake.
Visit the Aritar Monastry and see the painted murals, rare manuscripts and Buddhist artefacts.
You may also choose to visit the Ever Green Nursery and Ram Gauri Sangrhalaya Museum, which displays some stunning collection of drift wood, botanical and some exotic varieties of flowers.
The age-old British Bungalow called the Ari-Bangla is a must place to see.
You can also visit nearby destinations like Rishi Khola, Pedong, Icchey Gaon and Sillery Gaon. Other popular destinations are of Silk route like Zuluk, Padmachen, Kupup Lake, and Nathang Valley.
