Description

Tirupati situated in the Chittor District of Andhra Pradesh is one of the major pilgrimage centers in India. The world famous Tirumala Temple sits atop of one of the 7 hills of Tirumala in the city of Tirupati. The Tirumala Temple also called as the famous Sri VenkateswaraSwamy templeis dedicated to Lord Venkateswara. The name Tirumala is derived from Tiru which means 'Holy' or 'Sacred' and mala means hills/mountain in Dravidian languages.
The Tirumala Hill is located at a height of 853m above sea level and it comprises seven peaks, representing the seven heads of Adisesha, the serpent under whose hoods Vishnu resides in Vaikuntha, one of the seven hills, thus earning the name Seshachalam.
The presiding deity of the temple is Lord Venkateswara, who is another form of the Hindu god, Vishnu. Venkateswara is known by other names like Balaji, Govinda, and Srinivasa. Tirumala Temple is one of the richest temples of our country.

Distance: 1640km from Kolkata.
Time: You can directly take a train from Kolkata to Tirupati. (16hr approx.) For flights, you can directly travel from Kolkata to Tirupati Airport. (2hr 30min)

Best Time to Visit

Winter offers a pleasant and comfortable weather to visit Tirupati for temple tours.
Summers get intolerable here.

Rayalaseems Food and Dance Festival happens every year in the month of October.
The Flamingo Festival takes place during winter every year. The Navaratri and Dussehra also sees many festivals here in Tirupati
You can buy some Kalamkari fabric in Tirupati and also purchase some religious souvenirs like a wooden or black replica statue of Lord Tirumala
